    Product Guide & Care

    CAST IRON

Black iron pans are protected by a clear, non-toxic oil coating that must be removed before their first use. Once the coating is removed, the pan should be seasoned with cooking oil to develop a natural film. Over time and with regular use, this film will build up and cause the pan to become virtually non-stick. Continued use at high temperatures with oil and food will only add to the protective layers. These layers are completely safe and pose no risk, even under high heat.

Although black iron can rust, any rust that forms can be removed by thoroughly cleaning and scouring the pan. Once the rust is removed, the pan should be re-seasoned. It is important to always clean the pan in hot water using washing-up liquid, then dry it immediately by hand and coat it with oil. These pans are not dishwasher safe and should never be placed in a dishwasher.

After each use, it is recommended to wipe the pan clean with paper towels and ensure it is completely dry to prevent rust. If rust does develop, repeat the cleaning and seasoning process. Lastly, a dry pan should never be used under any circumstances.
